Western men are looking for Russian brides because former Soviet Union girls are considered to make good wives. But why would Russian ladies want to leave their country and marry a man from abroad? Here we will try to find an answer to this question.
First of all it must be said that not all Russian women look for a western or European men. Most of them are happily married in Russia and never think about going abroad for good. But some women do really want to find a foreign man and are not afraid of cultural difference, danger of getting into a dependant position and the challenge to leave their parents and friends.
Well, the most important thing that makes Russian girls to do so is economical reason. State of economy is quite difficult in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. The salaries are low in comparison those in Europe and the US. And in most cases people have to work really hard to get the money. Most of women work in Russia. Sometimes women get adjusted to the economic situation better and start earning more money than men do. But usually men get leading positions at work and women have to work hard to get less money. Usually all the money family earns are spent for food and rent. Most people rarely can afford anything more that everyday needs.
Such situation makes women look for stability and safety for herself and her future children. It’s very important for a woman to be sure that her husband has a stable secure job and can provide the family with everything necessary. Many women would like to continue working abroad, but there is still essential for a woman to be sure that she can rely on her husband when she gives birth to a child and looks after it. She wants to be with a responsible man and in a safe and secure place to bring up children.
Another reason why Russian women look for husbands abroad is demographic situation. There are 67 million of men in Russia and 77 million of women. As you see, the difference is 10 million. In some areas the ration of men to women is 1 to 3. Besides there is a huge gap between life span of men and women. Men live 13,5 years less than women. It’s obvious that all Russian women just can’t find husbands in Russia.
One more aspect is a role a Russian woman has played for generations. Traditionally Russia is a patriarchal country, with expected gender roles for men and women. It is changing now, but still the family plays an important role. In 90 cases out of 100 even a very successful woman will sacrifice her career and personal interests for the sake of her family and children. Even though young girls are more independent now and much more career oriented, especially in big cities, family and having children remains the central life mission of a Russian woman.
The majority of families are traditional and a girl from the childhood is taught that the she will be responsible for keeping peace and comfort in her family. A woman is supposed to learn patience and respect her husband. Probably that’s why Russian ladies are so attractive for westerners. There is hardly a woman in Russia that can be comfortably single or divorced, even though she does not mind this. The public pressure is still quite tough, consciously or not a Russian woman aims at marriage and family. And the main reason why she is looking for a husband abroad is the wish to find real love and happy relationship.
