Anyone who’s registered with a dating site can tell you how often those matches who seem so promising online end up being duds IRL (in real life).

The folks behind HowAboutWe, a newly-launched dating service profiled by Mashable have designed a solution to that problem: forget about those vanity profile pictures shot in front of the mirror or those contrived lists of favourite activities, users choose their matches based on the dates they propose.

The site is of the same vein as Alikewise, where you can look for matches based on book tastes.

I wanted to send a warning out to all of my relationship-seeking friends concerning the nature of a potentially possessive and controlling new companion. It might seem that your new boyfriend or girlfriend has a small insecurity problem and you might even think it is cute when he or she sticks by your side, asks you all sorts of personal questions, wants all of the details of your past relationships and demands to know whom you talk to. You might even be flattered by all of the sudden attention. But I want you to stop and seriously assess your relationship if your new partner is coming on a bit too strong. There might be a very serious and negative drawback to this behavior.

Mood. It is something very complicated. One moment, we are in a mood to go out and meet some friends, and the next moment our mood changes. Mood is a state of mind and as most of us have no control over our minds, our mood changes from sad to happy or vice versa.

Valentine's day is coming. One cannot forget to be in the right mood for that day. Isn't it? How to do that? There have been some special moments in my life when someone confides in me a personal story that truly moves me.

So here’s a story that I’d like to share with you so hopefully you can get an idea as to what REAL Character, Strength and Fortitude is all about.

Recently I was privileged to hear a personal story about a very special and profoundly beautiful young lady I’ll call Jennifer.

As with all personal stories concerning Russian people history always plays a huge role.

For most of these people the years surrounding the breakup of the Soviet Union was a completely chaotic and dangerous time to live in.

For Jennifer and her family this was certainly the case since they lived in the neighboring country of Kazakhstan during the collapse of the USSR.

When Kazakhstan declared itself as an independent country the indigenous Central Asian “Kazakhs” that lived there decided that it was time for some payback for the many years of iron fisted Soviet rule over their ancestral lands. Although they declared independence away from Moscow they didn’t necessarily stop there.

Methodically they started to marginalize and discriminate against the millions of Ethnic Russians that had already lived in Kazakhstan for many years. Many Russians that were previously involved in building up Kazakhstan society soon found themselves without opportunities for jobs or a higher education as “greater priority” was given to the “locals” instead.

I was very busy with the gentleman who you will hear more about in the future.

He decided to take a decisive step in a big way, and moved to Siberia to see for themselves the things that I described in this site.

It's still early in its migration, and it has not been disappointed yet.

In fact, I believe that he witnessed for himself how far this rabbit hole goes.

And it's all good gentlemen.

It was a neat re-experiencing a sense of wonder again, his eyes as he comes in contact with various ladies.

I've been busy getting Mr. Newexpat to Russia groove, so to speak.

He finally located in a beautiful place and there is enough time to get a good inventory of their new surroundings.

I could go on about the adventures of the little we had in this regard ... But the bottom line is this ..

I am very glad to see the following article in Bloomberg, after all slanted and biased press that Russia and the CIS women seemed to have been getting for such a long time.

    Three years after the first exchange of e-mail to Anna on the dating site, a web designer from the south coast of England made a 2200-mile trek to Ivanovo, Russia in the "city of brides." He and Anna are now expecting their first child.

    Ivanovo region has the highest ratio of women to men in Russia, the legacy of the Soviet textile mills that imported female workers from across the country. The city, which once helped marriage bureau recruit young women for foreign spouses, is now enticing residents to stay and raise families. This is fueling a baby boom as Russia struggles to stem population decline.

Now it's great to see how the coverage of this on a city in Russia, but keep in mind that Ivan is not the only place with a large imbalance in the ratio of men and women. You can travel anywhere in most of the former Soviet Union and it is easy to experience it for yourself.
