But I must admit the image of a chess playing Russian beauty saying “checkmate” is one stereotype I don’t mind promoting at all. ;)

And somehow the thought beautiful 23 year old raven haired Russian Grandmaster named Alexandra "Sasha" Kosteniuk kicking my ass all over the board has a strange appeal to me.

Russian women championship Superfinal is the round robin final stage of the national championship. It is held in Moscow from November 15 to 27. The prize fund of the tournament that brought in all the best players in the country, including the entire national team, is 1.4 million rubles (around 35 thousand Euros) with 400 thousand rubles (around 10.000 Euro) going to the winner. She is after all supposed to be a glamour-puss.

Call me crazy but Maria, as her meat sauce story would seem to suggest, seemed pretty damn unpretentious, dare we say ordinary. Just ask James McOnie.

The likeable larrikin, he of The Crowd Goes Wild fame, specialises in embarrassing sports stars and himself with zany questions. However, poor old James met his match yesterday. As well as the nice meat sauce line we learnt Maria likes to shop but hasn't had time to since here arrival here a few days ago.

McOnie offered to show her the ropes to which she inquired: "How's your taste? Is it good? I see you don't know too many hairdressers around here".

Nice serve that and ASB Classic organisers will be hoping we see plenty more of those when the tennis megastar graces ASB Tennis Centre this week.

It just really dawned on me the other day that someone REALLY needs to do this..

I was having a conversation with one of the girls in photos.

She was totally in love with the idea of someday realizing her dream of visiting Hollywood to see all of the “Glamorous Women”.

Once I told her that I’ve spent some time in Hollywood.. Her face flushed and her eyes just grew totally wide as she gasped…

As if we need anyone to another state apparently does not it?

The last time I Googled up "Russian Women" was only a few sites that have returned ..

But here, we define metropolitan girls – as inhabitants of capitals and big cities, like Moscow, St. Petersburg. Provincial – as all the others.

As you know, the main difference between small towns and big cities is society, and the relationships inside it. The benefit of a small town is the sense of community, more communal attitude. Everybody knows each other, knows the living, habits. The best theme to talk about is gossips: who is pregnant, who drinks a lot or plays cards.

That is why people care what the neighbors can say or think about their daughters and bred them in strict morals or even restrictions.

That’s why provincial girls are more old fashioned, traditionalists, religious, family-oriented. The main goal for women here – is to get married, give birth to children, to keep house. She needs to be modest, to be faithful to husband, to be good cooker.

They haven’t seen life, as it is, and that’s why they are stays emotionally “clean”, so called “tabula rasa”: native, trustful, persons of ready sympathy, loyal and understanding. Such women are true, real in their emotions, in love and hate.
